Life Lately According to my iPhone

Time has been slipping away, and I've wondered where it's all gone. But looking back on these photos I can see that summer has been happening and time has been good.

I've been trying to get into the creative swing of things again with a few small sewing projects...

An impromptu after dinner backyard star gaze is always a good thing...

New business cards...

An epic yard sale find...

Unearthing childhood relics at a country junk shop....

Here's hoping time has been good to you lately.  Until the next...

The Invisible Accessory

Geranium

Bourbon

Tomato

We are fortunate enough to be able to grow a few summer veggies and herbs in our tiny backyard, and one of my favourite things about growing our own food are the smells. While I was in the backyard checking out the progress of our bounty, I took a moment to enjoy the smell of our tomato plants. The tomato plant is hands down my favourite smell in the garden. It's light and peppery with a hint of citrus. Avery invigorating scent.... This got me thinking, how can I enjoy this smell all the time? So I did a little digging and came across the Demeter Fragrance Library where you can find dozens of fragrances adapted from everyday smells. This was a huge discovery and I already have a few scents picked out to purchase, my first being Tomato!

I love that they have so many common smells available. I have a very sensitive memory trigger when I smell certain things. The fact that I can buy a fragrance that smells like pipe tobacco already makes me think of all those auctions my parent's brought us to when we were little (the auctioneer smoked a pipe and it's scent filled the air).

In celebration of this discovery I thought it'd be fun to put together three outfits inspired by three fragrances that I hope to try. Do you wear a different scent with different outfits? I usually have three scents that I work with and coordinate them with what I'm wearing. It's the perfect accessory, and something I never leave the house without. What is your favourite scent? Would you buy a fragrance to trigger a memory?

For The Record

One of my favourite things to do with Clayton, is hit up the local thrift shops to flip through stacks of bad records.  I love it for a few reasons, one of them being the discovery of great music.  Who doesn't love the thrill of the hunt?!  A couple days ago we went out to grab some coffee and then we hit the thrift shop.  We each took two stacks and started sorting through many dusty relics.  Most of the time we end up empty handed, but on this trip I brought home a few...

I'm a huge fan of Italian cinema, so naturally this record jumped out at me.  I was mostly taken my the different fonts on the cover, but when I got home was pleasantly surprised at the music.  Overall this one was a great find...

I'm not too familiar with Dusty Springfield, I will admit, I thought Dusty Springfield was a man, but then I saw this cover and was so smitten with her outfit and hair, that I thought I would give this one a try.  Design wise, this isn't too exciting, but it's great outfit inspiration!

Classical records are usually a dime a dozen, but once in a blue moon, there will be a record sleeve that really sells the music.  I love the colours and shapes on this record sleeve.  Clayton and I couldn't pin point the painter (so if anyone is familiar with this painting and it's artist, I'd love to know) but we brought home the record anyway.  Turns out the nutcracker suite is quite nice background music...  This record had a lot going for it.  The image was great, although a little dirty, still nice to look at, and it had many cool fonts and layout to admire.

Next time your thrfiting, stop a moment and have a look at the records.  You may not find any music you love, but there is never a shortage of great design inspiration. And if you really want to put those great covers to use, check out this fun DIY.  It's practical, and easy!
