Let's Get Happy

pastels

It's Friday, and that's reason enough for me to be happy.  While riding the happy wave, I've been gathering inspiration for spring dressing, and one trend I've taken a shine to are Pastels!  There are some really pretty pieces out there friends....

What I love the best about this trend is that there are so many wonderful vintage items, particularly from the 50's, out there that celebrate the pastel colour wheel. This is currently one of my favourite pastel dresses in the TVR Etsy shop right now. I also love this one  from Custard Heart Vintage, and this one from Figmint vintage.  So embrace your softer side and slip into something happy for spring!

p.s. don't forget to come and grab your very own pastel piece at the pop up shop at Isabella's chocolate cafe tomorrow!

Memories In My Closet

Source
I've still been working hard at weeding out all the unworn items in my closet in the hopes that one day I will reach closet Nirvana.  I've been at it for months, literally, and I'm sure by now you can tell I don't rid of things easily. So the process for me is a little bit more drawn out.  Every item seems to have a memory or a story attached to it. Some better than others, but I'm attached either way.

So, let's play a game: It's called "what would you save if the fashion police busted down your closet door?"
Ok...I'll let you think about that one for a bit, but in the mean time, I'll tell you a little bit about my item.

I got this doctor's bag in Paris, when I used to work there.  I was on a tight budget but found a vintage place in the Marais that I would visit at least once a week.  I was inspired by the fashions in Paris, but couldn't afford the really chic designer stuff, so I made do, as I always do do do... When I found this leather doctor's bag for 20 Euros I was overjoyed, and used it just about every day for the remainder of my stay.  It made me feel put together and Parisian (whatever that is...)  I held my head up high and had an extra pep in my step when I wore it with my black trench coat. It made me happy.

Sadly I don't use it as much anymore, but take it out once in a while to touch and smell and reminisce.  It's a lovely reminder of how things used to be, and is invaluable to me now. So when the fashion police arrest me for crimes of closet hoarding, I'll be toting my doctor's bag in shackles.

Tell me, what's your one item?  Do get attached to certain pieces in your wardrobe?

News

This month brings many new items to the pop up shop.  Spring has arrived early, and what better time than now to start your summer dress collection!  While I have been restocking the Etsy shop, there are still so many pieces I haven't got to, so this is your chance to get them before they end up online.

I hope to be back soon with a real post.  Thanks for hanging in there everyone!

Spotted and Hearted: Bolo Ties

I don't get out much these days, but when I do, I always enjoy the people watching. It's a great way to spot trends and get inspired...  (if anyone out there reading this wants to hire a buyer, I'm your (wo)man!) On a recent outing, I was spotting bolo ties left and right.  They seemed to be everywhere, and I love the look.  Such a versatile accessory that is so beyond cowboy now.  Here are some of my favourites from around the web

An Exploratory Mission

You never know when avoiding to parallel park your car will open up opportunities in life... Things all came together for me on Saturday when I took a trip to our little downtown to grab a tea at my favourite local hangout.  Too nervous to take my time to park on the main drag as cars came whizzing by me, I decided to find a spot on one of the small side streets downtown.  There was lots of parking, and as I got out of my car I noticed the second hand store across the street that I had been meaning to visit for months had their open sign lit up.  I didn't even have to think about it, I was going in.  To my surprise the store was quite large and packed with promise.

Among the arm load of things I picked up, were two leather bags, a white sequin dream of a dress, and a couple other garments for my shop. I will admit the sequined dress and the woven bag with leather trim were my favourite finds, and I'm looking forward to paying another visit very soon! Mission accomplished as they say....

I'll be doing a full review of this shop in an upcoming issue Oshawhat magazine .  Stay tuned!
