Excuses, Excuses

For some reason it feels like I'm always starting my posts with an apology about my absenteeism.  I feel a little bit like a dead beat...  making promises and never keeping them.  But I swear I have a good excuse.  Well I have a good excuse for this week's light posts at least.

I mentioned in my last post that I was participating in a craft show.   Not sure why, but I left a lot of my organizing and creating until the last minute, and thus ran around like a crazy chicken for two days.  This is one of my reasons for neglecting ye old faithful blog.  The craft show has come and gone, so thanks to all who came out and supported a good cause.  It was nice to meet you if I already didn't know you!

Another project I had on the go, was my very first attempt at making a diaper bag for my friend Kristy.  It's been a busy week for creating around these parts..... Nevertheless, I was happy with how the bag turned out.

Also I had talked about starting a new feature on here called the chosen one.  I wanted to start this mainly because I was neglecting some key pieces in my closet.  So far it has helped me make the effort to wear these items and try new outfits.  So even though I haven't shared my picks with you yet, I have been trying it out.  So I will be showing you this week's and last week's chosen one items a little later. Still not in the habit of taking pictures of my wearing said items, but I'll get there.

In other news, I orders these boots I have been dreaming of for a couple of weeks now.   Thanks to my style council (Deb) I was encouraged to go for it.  So glad I did.  Can't wait for these puppies to make their way to my front porch.  So many outfit possibilities.  Does anyone own these boots?  If yes, do you love them?

I think that's all for now.  So thanks for hanging in there with me.  Some chosen ones items coming UP!

Thrifted Dress 2 Ways

Hi Ramble friends!  Just dropping in to share a little sewing project I finished over the weekend.   Last week I thrifted a great  vintage Kaftan type dress.  It was way too long for me, so I chopped it off and turned it into a mini dress.  I'm excited to style this.  It's got a lot going for it.  1. It's vintage, 2. These bright colours always seem to look good on me 3. Love the ease of the dress.   Maybe I'll share more on how I styled this later, for now back to the sewing project....

I was left with a lot of fabric which was definitely not going to go to waste.  A friend had given me a bunch of fringe a few weeks back.  When I looked at the fabric my wheels started turning and I came up with this pillow!

I am now inspired to make a bunch more bohemian inspired pillows.  I have a lot of fringe left and love the look of this pillow.  I don't have anywhere to put this pillow in our house, so I will likely be selling it along with others ( I hope) at the Instruments and Easels fundraiser this Friday.  I'll be set up with a table of my handmade goods and some vintage. Stop by if your in the area!

Inspired By: Carpet Bags

Not sure if it's the winter or just an eccentric phase, but lately I have been lusty over carpet bags.  You know the kind....big, bright, floral, with a touch of old coot.  All kidding aside, these plush vibrant and usually one of a kind designed  bags are a perfect statement especially in the winter.  Their saturated colours and thick piles denote a cozy, warm, and ultra chic look that I try to sport during the cold winter months.  So here are a few of my Etsy favourites.

In other news, things have been a little uninspiring around here, so I'm looking to change that, and am introducing a new weekly segment called The Chosen One.  The Chosen One will feature one item from my wardrobe ( this includes shoes, bags, jewellery etc ) that I will incorporate into an outfit or outfits.  I have so many great pieces that I really need to give more attention to, so I will be sharing these items with you and maybe some photos of them in action.  Keep your eyes peeled!

Outfit and a Mixed Tape

Picture 002Picture 005Picture 006
Here is my first attempt at modeling an outfit from my closet.  First off I must say this is way harder than it looks... the modeling that is.  I’m generally not fond of having my picture taken so I guess I’m a little rusty in the posing department, but Clayton did manage to get a few good shots of me.  So here it is.

This outfit is made up of this adorable dress I found a while back at the thrift store.  It’s part French maid, part Victorian gothic, with a touch or Harashuku girl. At any rate it’s adorable, and I haven’t had a chance to wear it yet, so I thought it was perfect for the task at hand.  The leather trench is a treasure I will never part with. Also found at the thrift store.  As much as I love this coat, I have never worn it and I thought it was a cheeky mix with the dress.  The shoes are my favourite not only for their height but the style goes with almost everything in my closet. And yes I love black and brown combination...

On to the mix.  8trax changed their format, and I haven’t had time to make a mix, so today I am sharing someone else’s mix that I really enjoyed, and thought it went well with the outfit. Here it is.  Enjoy!

Out with the old, In with the new

Value Village you have outdone yourself.....

The more I thought about this sweater, the more it made me laugh.  I'm going to squirrel this away for a Halloween costume perhaps. Not a bad way to end 2010!

P.S. The cats are made of sequins!
